Cheshire West and Chester contains a rich and diverse historic environment including Chester’s internationally significant heritage, historic market towns, villages, canals, industrial heritage, archaeological remains and historic landscapes.
Development pressures may affect the significance, setting and character of designated and non-designated heritage assets. Ongoing investment is required to maintain and secure the long-term conservation of heritage assets.
There are approximately 2,500 listed buildings, including 86 Grade I and 180 Grade II* listed buildings. Numerous scheduled monuments, registered parks and gardens, historic landscapes and archaeological sites.
There are also a total of 96 conservation areas in the borough, designated for their special architectural or historic interest.
