Local Plan 2026 Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report

Sustainability Appraisal (SA) identifies environmental effects (as covered by Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)) and also assesses social and economic effects. It provides an opportunity to assess alternatives and identify mitigation measures. The first stage in the SA process is to prepare a screening report to identify if SEA is required. The second stage is to prepare a scoping report identifying the topics to be covered and the appraisal framework, including objectives and indicators. The SEA screening identified that SEA is required for the Local Plan.

The scoping report has now been prepared and we are inviting comments between Monday 24 August and 5pm on 28 September 2026. The SEA screening determination is included as an appendix to the scoping report.

You can comment by clicking on the “Comment” buttons under each heading. You will need to login or register on the website to submit your comments. If you need any assistance with this please email planningpolicy@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk

Please note: this is not the Local Plan scoping consultation. Consultation on that will begin on Monday 7 September 2026.
